Welcome to "Marriages That Last" - a blog that helps couples achieve a rock solid marriage, a marriage that can last the test of time.
My name is Sharon Smith and I'll be your guide (and listening ear) on this journey. I have 30 years of real world experience which I've tested in my own marriage!
Taxi Driver, Soccer Mom, and Tutor
First off, I'm not some Dr. Phil type with years of counseling experience. But I think I have something even better than a degree and a shingle.
I've been married for that whole time to the same wonderful man, my husband Rick. We have four great sons ranging in age from 29 to 18. I've spent my time at home raising those four special boys. I did the "stay-at-home mom" thing. You know the drill: run errands, taxi service to baseball, basketball, soccer, whatever; help with homework; put Band-Aids on skinned knees; and so on and so on...
But you know what? I loved every minute of it and I still love it! It's what I've always wanted to do. I always wanted to stay at home, have kids, and take care of my family. And while I was doing that, I learned what works and what doesn't work in my marriage.
Becoming a Listening Ear
I also listened to friends and family and watched them struggle with their marriages. Some of those marriages even dissolved. So I learned more about what works and what doesn't work in marriage. And I applied the good parts to my marriage to make it even better.
Turning My Passion Into a Blog
After seeing so many of my friends and family have so many challenges with their marriages, I realized that having a marriage last 30 years in this day and age was very unusual. I decided that I could and should reveal some of what I've learned in the past 30 years. The "Marriages That Last" blog was born.
Why "Marriages That Last?"
By now you might be wondering why you should read my blog. There are several reasons. First, I've already told you that I have an excellent marriage that's lasted almost 30 years. So I've got the experience.
Second, as you read my blog posts you'll discover that marriage and family are very important to me. In fact, I'm very passionate about them.
Third, you'll also discover that much of what I write about is just good common sense. Problem is, so many people today seem to have lost that good common sense they used to have. The same common sense that I was brought up with in the South. The kind of common sense that I learned from my Southern grandmother.
Last, I don't pull punches. Along with the common sense, I write about what I see happening today and how it affects marriage. I write from my heart. And you might not agree sometimes with what I write. That's OK. Tell me about it with a comment.
