Camping, and Here Comes Summer!
Thursday, 11 June 2009 00:00

Last Friday night Rick and I went...

camping with one of our sons. It was a church campout at a place called Anderson Cove at Pineview Reservoir. It was up in the mountains about 45 minutes from where we live. Many folks brought tents but some brought trailers and campers. Everyone provided their own supper and breakfast was provided by the church.

Now. Picture this. I'm not one that does alot of camping, as a matter of fact this was only my third time camping! You really get to know others when you camp together and sit around the fire talking. It made for a relaxing evening. But... then it started to sprinkle. And that's when the trouble started. It rained so hard and was so windy that night, I thought our tent was going to blow away! But our tent actually kept us dry! Needless to say, I didn't sleep too well!

The next morning the weather was nice and clear. It was a little chilly but it was nice. Rick and I helped cook pancakes for breakfast while some of the others cooked dutch oven breakfast casseroles. Rick kept wondering why his grill was rusted. When one of the men was cleaning the grill after we were done cooking, he noticed the grill was upside down! The person who set up the grill had set it up upside down and none of us realized it! Smile

Since we got back I've been asking myself why we don't do it more often. We had a really fun time on that campout even with the thunderstorm and the rain. Plus it does our family a lot of good to just get away and relax, even if it's for a short trip like that campout. And even though the economy isn't so great right now, you can still take a lot of short, fun trips with your family instead of long vacations.  For myself, I plan to see what's available in our city and within a hundred miles. Then we can see what interests our family and away we'll go. Let us know what your ideas are for some short, fun trips!
