What Should a Woman Look Like?
I’ve been reading a book the last couple of days and I have to comment on it!
The book’s title is “Making Peace With Your Thighs.” The author is, Dr. Linda Mintle. I’m not trying to promote her book. I don’t know her, but I’m really enjoying this book and I thought I’d pass it along. Basically, it’s talking about how the media is bombarding us with images of what a woman “should” look like. She says that “in almost every image it makes body acceptance and confidence harder to achieve.”
She also says that the average American female is a size 12. But to hear the media tell it, size 2 should be our goal. She says that body dissatisfaction is an epidemic and that nearly every female of every age has major physical insecurities, no matter how slight her flaws really are. I just want to say that I totally agree with her. She is saying get off the scales and get on with your lives.
I know this is harder said than done and I think maybe thats why this book is appealng to me. What the media forgets to tell you, is its nearly impossible to fulfill their expectatons. You as a woman have been created to have the curves and the extra padding that you all have, we start changing and our bodies make these changes to prepare us for having childen.
I haven’t met a mother yet that wouldn’t think that their child wasn’t worth the extra few pounds or the stomach pouch. Dr. Mintle states in her book that what we have to remember is God created us, He sees us in our natural state, naked and all, he doesn’t shame us. He intentionally made us as we are. It’s when we take ourselves away from His idea of how perfect we are and listen to the world’s way and the media that we become dissatified.
How true this statement is. It made me do some thinking about myself. We should be wanting to lose weight or exercise for the right reasons, to take care of ourselves and our health. You should decide what is right for you. Not the media, not your husband, not your friends. But you!
