Happy Thanksgiving!

Published by under Holidays

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! I’m so grateful for all that I have. My family, my beliefs in a Heavenly Father, and in Jesus Christ. I’m grateful to have a home in which to live, food on our table, and for steady income. I realize more then ever in the world today that these simple pleasures are ones to be grateful for. There are so many people out of work, losing their homes, and just plain hungry. I saw a news report where in L.A. they were handing out turkeys and a few groceries and people had been lined up for hours. There was an elderly woman with a walker that had been there for 6 hrs. I think its so sad that in this country with so much that we have elderly people that have to stand in line for 6 hrs. for food. But I’m also grateful for the organization that was giving the turkey and groceries out.

I’m so appreciative for those volunteers that were helping to see that these people weren’t hungry for Thanksgiving. You know, when I see this it makes me realize how much I really do have to be grateful for. I do know that this country also has a lot of good, compassionate people in it.

We don’t have to be filthy rich to donate a few bucks or to go volunteer to help someone. Not to toot my horn, but I’ve had the honor of helping and volunteering and I have to tell you nothing does more for your soul. It’s a feeling that’s beyond words to explain and you wonder how helping others can make you wind up feeling better but it does.

I’ve also been on the receiving end of that help and I don’t know what we would have done without it. At the time, my husband had been laid off and we had gone through what savings we had and it was pretty gloomy. We had several anonymous people help us. Money showed up in the mail, groceries were given to us, and every where we turned we were treated with kindness. People were concerned.

I try really hard not to forget that time of our life because I never want to take for granted any of what we now have. We have our sons and their wives. We’re so grateful our youngest son Tyler beat leukemia and is now cancer free. We have employment, our health, a warm home to live in, and food on our table. These are true blessings! I hope you really had a Happy Thanksgiving and were able to enjoy some time with your family!

I, too, am exceedingly grateful for the blessings I have been given–my faithful and loving husband of 63 years, our children, in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren, friends.

I am thankful for the health that I have, not perfect but good enough. I am thankful to have been granted over 81 years on this planet and great hope for the afterlife.

We have had numerous rough spots, tragedies, and illnesses, but life is good and getting better day by day.
