Choosing Friendships

Published by under Relationships

About two weeks ago Rick and I had the opportunity to meet some friends for dinner that had come into town from…Ohio. We knew them and were good friends with them when we lived in Ohio. We haven’t seen these guys in about five years. Also, recently we had some other dear friends come in to visit that were also from Ohio. We put together a bar-b-que and called some other friends that are living here in Utah that know these same people.

It was so much fun to see everyone again. It made me stop to think about these people and how different each of them are but also how alike we all are as well. I thought about how we teach our children, especially our teens about how important their choices of friends are to them and their activities and choices.

The choice of friends have a tremendous influence over our teens. I thought how true this is even as adults. We all like and need friends and the friends we choose to go out with and confide in play a major role in how we behave and relate to life. We need to be very careful whom we choose as friends even as adults and especially as married couples.

Nothing is more fun than going out with other couples or having fun activities with other families when our children are small. It gives you a break and you have other adults that can relate to what you’re going through. You bond and get ideas on different stages of life. The key is to pick friends and couples with the same core values that you have.

We felt like we had never even been apart from these old buds. It seemed as if everyone just picked up from where we had all been before we all went our separate ways as life takes us sometimes. Yes, we’re all a little older and our children are older but the feelings for these people were the same.

Your choice of friends can help or hinder your marriage if you aren’t careful. Sooooooooo think about that and let me know how you feel.
